Animating my work
Now that I have mastered all the different techniques used
for animating my models, I have been putting the production together.
Firstly the intro scene was put together and animated, however first of all I needed to create a background and floor, to do this I created a thin cylinder and manipulated it used the editable poly and used soft selection, this gave me an uneven ground which appeared more realistic, I then used an image of sand which I got online, and applied it to my floor, this then gave the floor an uneven sand/desert looking, I was really pleased with how it came out, I was initially looking to find a gravel effect, however when I applied it to my floor it didn’t look very realistic and the individual pieces of gravel looked far too oversize, despite how much I change the settings using the UV mapping option.
It was important that I used circle shaped flooring, rather than a plane which has straight edges, this is because when viewing the animation, the audience see it as a horizon, rather than just a straight edge, adding more sides to the cylinder also gave a much smoother rounded corner, which improved the realistic look to the horizon.
Now I have my flooring I had to create a sky and horizon, it took me a while how to figure out how to get a good effect, I could have used environment background, however in the animation it would then show the edge of the floor which would look really unrealistic.
I then thought about creating a sphere, cutting it in half and then applying an image of the sky or horizon to get the desired effect, this deemed a good idea, but It took me a while to master how to make it look realistic, so one of my peers helped me manage it, I cut part of the outer edge of the sphere out so I could then see into it, I could then apply a map of an image to the sphere, and using the UV mapping modifier make the image go all the way around the shape, using the ‘fit’ option. When the image was applied to the sphere, I then positioned it over the top of the sand floor, and when looking into the sphere I had my scenery!
